Acupuncture + Herbal Medicine

Here is what people are saying about their experiences at Points for Health . . .

achilles tendon injury

After being diagnosed with an Achilles tendon injury I tried stretching, rest and ice -- all to no avail. I made an appointment with Denise to see if acupuncture would offer some relief. The acupuncture treatment was painless, and the herbal treatment was quite effective in reducing the pain and stiffness. Within two weeks I was running again, after a two month hiatus. I am now a believer in the therapeutic effects of acupuncture. Denise knew just how to treat my injury and I am pain free again.

menopausal symptoms

When I met Denise, hot flashes and the lack of quality sleep were affecting my quality of life. Acupuncture was not anything that I would have considered. It never occurred to me that I would EVER let someone stick needles into me. Denise's calm professionalism created a trust that allowed me to first talk about it. Through subsequent conversations, it was clear that Denise was interested in my overall health and getting to the root of the issue, not just treating a symptom. The following weeks and months, I followed Denise's suggestions with herbs and acupuncture. Don't know how it works, but it does! I am a convert and have become an advocate.

digestive problems

I was having several “issues” that didn't seem to be connected and could not be solved by a western doctor (trust me I tried!). I had a large amount of acid build up in my stomach, digestion issues, and allergies 365 days of the year, and what felt like zero percent control of my emotions. I was taking one medication for the acid, two for allergies and an antibiotic for acne; that's a lot of medicine to keep track of!

Denise helped me resolve every one of these issues by using the holistic approach of traditional Chinese medicine and a combination of acupuncture, herbs and other techniques. I was even able to get rid of an extremely sore throat in one session! Her kind and calming demeanor really helps you get relaxed during treatment and clear your mind. We only have one body and if I can solve my problems with all natural products, I not only feel better, but know I am taking care of myself for the long run. I go back in for “tune- ups” every now and then; it's the one doctor visit I actually look forward to!

Chinese Medicine is pretty cool and amazing how different parts of your body relate to each other and work together. It is definitely worth trying for everyone (you can't even feel the needles!)

polycystic ovarian syndrome

I recently received acupuncture treatments from Denise Edmiston for treatment of my long existing symptoms from polycystic ovarian syndrome. I had tried many different traditional Western methods, such as medication, to treat my symptoms with only short term relief. Some of my symptoms included uncontrollable emotions, anxiety, weight gain, acne, hot flashes and digestive upset. I began treatments with Denise and felt an immense change in my wellbeing after just one week of herbal and needle treatments and quickly began to feel more like my old self again. I experienced an overall positive result which included physical and emotional changes; I was not as easily upset, my hot flashes were not as intense and my overall health was significantly improved. The relief I experienced from Denise's treatment are almost more than words can express. I recommend acupuncture and herbal treatment to anyone with a health concern.

postpartum depression and anxiety

When I started seeing Denise for acupuncture I was a wreck. I was suffering from post-partum depression, anxiety, and felt uptight and nervous all the time. I knew I needed to do something, but didn't know what to do. I wanted to avoid getting on prescription medication if I could, so somebody suggested I try acupuncture. After only a few visits with Denise I was able to cope better with my anxiety, and I started feeling more and more normal again. After seeing her for a few months I am completely over my post-partum depression, and am able to enjoy life again. I am very thankful that Denise was able to help me and that I was able to avoid taking prescription medication. I would highly recommend Denise to anyone; she truly cares about her patients and wants to help them find relief from the pain they are experiencing.

arm pain

On May 2, 2009, I sustained an injury that resulted in debilitating pain in my arm. I consulted my physician and after six months of endless specialists (neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, pain management specialists), multiple injections of cortisone and steroids and two surgeries; there was no relief. The only Western medicine solution was a third surgery with promise of paralysis to that arm and hand.

I had not considered acupuncture until my husband told me of meeting Denise, an acupuncturist with a new practice in Cedar Park. Why not give it a try? Within six weeks the pain was completely gone and I have only been in one time for a 'tune up'. Acupuncture works and Denise saved me from a frightening future.

In the past seven months I have been pain free. The sessions are painless and relaxing and it works. I have recommended her to every friend and family member with pain or depression. They each and every one have had amazing results. Even my primary physician asked for her number. Eastern medicine is not an option; it is the answer for pain related issues. I am a fan and believer in Denise Edmiston.

allergies and osteoarthritis of the knee

Living in Austin for many years, I have suffered with year round allergies which are worse during the late fall and winter, especially during cedar fever season. Historically, I would end up with sinus infections or bronchitis at least twice per year requiring antibiotic treatment and many days of feeling just downright sick. I had heard that acupuncture and herbal medicine was helpful in treating allergy symptoms, but I must admit that I was a skeptic until I went to Denise for treatment. I began my acupuncture and herbal treatments in the fall and I went through this past winter without requiring any antibiotic treatment and had a significant reduction in my symptoms.

I am almost 70 years old and have played tennis several times per week for the last 30 years. As a result, I have osteoarthritis in my knees which can be quite painful during and after a tennis game. Denise informed me that acupuncture is very effective in treating osteoarthritis, so I also received acupuncture treatment for my knee pain. As a result, I have had a significant reduction in my knee pain which has allowed me to remain active and continue to play the game that I truly love.

The thing that I enjoy the most about acupuncture is the extreme sense of relaxation and calmness that I experience after a treatment. I never would have imagined that I could fall asleep with all of those needles inserted in me and wake up thirty minutes later, totally relaxed.

I was once a skeptic, but know I am a true believer in acupuncture and it healing effects.

I’m no fan of needles; but this ancient form of Chinese treatment bears no resemblance to . . . traditional medicine.

yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis

Modern medicine wasn't working for me, and I had given it plenty of chances. Like a lot of women, I have some embarrassing, and frustrating, health issues. I have always been prone to yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. Round after round of medications left me feeling somewhat better, only to have the symptoms return. I decided to try another method, and began acupuncture with Denise. Her approach involves bringing balance to the body. For me, she incorporated diet counseling and herbal remedies to help me heal. Denise also treated me for anger, anxiety, and seasonal allergies. Because of her care and patience, I feel well. I know how to take better care of myself, and do so in a natural and healthy way.

general well-being

There are hardly words to express how much my treatment with Denise has improved my life, not only through the treatment of acupuncture, but also feeling so comfortable and at ease in telling her what is affecting me on any given day. I feel so blessed to have found Denise, and as long as she is in business, I will be one of her patients. I just can't thank her enough for all she has done for me. I always look forward to our time together.

My fear of needles made me a less than ideal candidate for an acupuncture treatment, but after months of hearing from friends and family of its wonders, I decided to bite the bullet and let Denise, whom I more commonly address as “mom”, remove me from my ill-founded ignorance. Sure, I was nervous and cringing, eyes closed, as she delicately inserted the first needle in my leg -- cringing much too long, actually, for the needle was already there and I hadn't felt a thing. The rest went marvelously and I don't think I've ever experienced a more profound relaxation. Since my first general treatment, Denise (“mom”) has subsequently alleviated stress on my lower back and, herbally, cured my pink eye. Coming home for a week is always a pleasure, but knowing that, health-wise, I'll be returning to New York in much better shape than when I left, makes such visits all the sweeter.

It’s amazing how relaxing the experience is.

I have suffered from migraines for over 30 years with varying degrees of success with different types of treatments. The triggers for my headaches have changed over the years, so the techniques and medications have ceased working at one time or another. When I came to see Denise I was on several different medications including steroids and still getting up to 14 migraines per month. Needless to say I was miserable.

She took the time and effort to determine the causes and triggers of my migraines and prescribed supplements and acupuncture treatments to alleviate the pain and ward off future headaches. I know that she genuinely cares about my wellbeing.

I have gone over 80 days without a migraine thanks to Denise!

For about twenty years, I've been battling frequent migraine attacks. I tried different medications but often had to work through the pain, sensitivity to light and sound, and vision problems. I had been seeing Denise regularly to treat the frequency and severity of the migraines. On more than one occasion, I arrived for my appointment with a severe migraine. She was immediately able to give me instant relief in just a few minutes through the acupuncture. My migraines usually lasted up to three days and she was able to relieve me of the pain in just a matter of minutes! She was so gentle and so caring and listened to all my health-related issues very carefully. Each time I went in for the acupuncture, she was able to melt away the stress and provide a warm environment for relaxation! I highly recommend Denise for anyone interested in acupuncture!

reduced pharmaceutical dependence

I personally have a long focused background of working in the pharmaceutical industry. Therefore, I have a thorough understanding of how western medicine contributes to the lives of so many people in the United States.

Denise has been so thoughtful in her interest in helping me address my individual concerns and goals for overall health. Because of Denise's patient and detailed explanations, I now feel enlightened to the amazing benefits of Chinese medicine. We now live in an age where we can benefit from the use of both Western and Chinese medicine as they actually complement each other quite well. With the use of Chinese medicine and specifically acupuncture, I am now able to achieve a higher level of wellness (both mentally and physically), reduce my dependence on everyday use of pharmaceuticals; but, with the knowledge that Western medicine can be used, when necessary. Of course, as everyone knows, the healthier you are, the less you have to seek medical treatments and aid.

I cannot emphasize enough how Denise's demeanor, patience, and calming yet knowledgeable professionalism has helped open a window of opportunity that I will benefit from for the rest of my life. I will benefit from acupuncture as a means of both health maintenance and improvement in the same way that I implement choices of healthy eating and regular exercise. I will also benefit from acupuncture during instances when life requires therapeutic attention (such as when work becomes overly stressful or if I should ever push myself a little beyond my physical limits). Overall, I feel like I have been given a gift that the majority of everyday people will not be given, due to the fact that it is simply not well understood by most.

shoulder pain

I've been going to Points Four Health for about 6 months and I wanted to share information with others about my great experience. Although I originally sought relief for shoulder pain, my treatments have expanded to other areas based on the success I had with the shoulder. I found Denise to be very knowledgeable and extremely attentive to the particular issues I described. She's a great listener and she asks effective follow-on questions helping her identify the best course of action. She can draw on many different treatment methods in addition to the traditional acupuncture procedures most people have heard about.

When Denise determines the best approach, she will explain in detail the treatment method she has selected; how it works and what you can expect.

Any fears you may harbor are eliminated as Denise talks you through the process as it's happening. She's also very sensitive to any non-verbal feedback she receives during treatment. I'm no fan of needles; but this ancient form of Chinese treatment bears no resemblance to any of the needles I've experienced in traditional medicine. It's amazing how relaxing the experience is.

Each of the treatment methods I've experienced provides unique benefits. The original shoulder issue was 80% corrected after the first treatment and was virtually gone after the second. I was amazed at such quick progress! Some of the other issues Denise has resolved for me were leg pain and tightness; hip pain and some chronic neck issues. In each case, I enjoyed a high level of immediate pain relief and limited return of the issue; if any return at all. Each session can be focused on multiple areas as Denise can employ more than one treatment method simultaneously. The overall experience has been very effective and very relaxing. Even if you're currently pain free, I would recommend talking to Denise about relaxation treatments. The feeling of relaxation and overall well-being is very powerful.

When I was diagnosed with "frozen shoulder" I was devastated! Not only because it is a very painful condition- basically limiting range of motion to nil- but because we already had a family snow-boarding trip planned. My orthopedic surgeon advised me to let the condition take it's course, which could take up to 18 months to resolve. I searched the internet and asked everyone I knew for alternatives and my mom told me about a friend who had great success with acupuncture. Even though I was very skeptical, I called and scheduled an appointment. You set my mind at ease immediately when you told me that if you couldn't help me, you would know by the end of the first appointment. Well, not only did that first appointment help but after 5 sessions, I was fit to snow board! I went on my trip, had a fantastic time and enjoyed pretty decent range of motion. I continued with the treatments for a few weeks after I returned and now I am back to normal- full range of motion! I am a believer and I would recommend acupuncture to anyone! The difference was amazing and my recovery took 3-4 months instead of 18!! Thank you so much.
