Acupuncture + Herbal Medicine

Are you sick and tired of having no energy, sleeping poorly, feeling stressed out and are ready to take the necessary steps to increase your health? I will work with you to achieve your desired level of health by incorporating the wisdom and tradition of Oriental Medicine with functional medicine, lifestyle guidance, meditation instruction, and food derived nutritional supplements and dietary instruction. Our approach identifies and treats the root causes of illness, not just the symptoms, all the while providing natural solutions to the symptoms that impact you every day.

No healing can take place without proper nutrition to rebuild the body, therefore a nutritional plan is discussed with all of our patients. Throughout time, cultures around the world have been utilizing foods to heal their bodies. The Chinese culture is no exception. The Chinese often incorporate dietary herbs into their cooking to cure or prevent certain illnesses. Drawing on my knowledge of Chinese herbs and general nutrition, I give patients practical advice that they can use in their own kitchens. You will be guided in the awareness of what your body needs to consume in order to subdue symptoms and overcome illness. In essence, the use of this knowledge will help bring your system back into balance.

Does your diet support healing? Often our diets, lack of nutrients in our foods and daily activities leave us deficient in nutrients, essential vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. Symptoms arise over time if we lack these essential components. But, through diet modification and the use of whole food supplementation, you can feel better almost immediately.

whole food vs. synthetic nutritional supplementation

High quality, food-derived, nutritional supplements may be prescribed as is necessary to address your health concerns. Points for Health Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine utilizes the highest quality and finest nutritional therapies available. Supplements made from organic and fermented whole foods are the primary nutritional support that is prescribed. As opposed to synthetic vitamins, these supplements provide nutrients that the body understands and is far more able to use. Working with whole food supplements gives the body all the co-factors and enzymes for absorption that allows healing to occur. Your body will be able to tell the difference.

Vitamins that are found naturally in whole foods come with all of their necessary components. The majority of vitamins that are sold in pharmacies, grocery stores, and vitamin shops are synthetic vitamins, which are only isolated portions of the vitamins that occur naturally in food.

A good example is vitamin C. If you take a look at a variety of vitamin C supplements, you will find that the majority of them contain only ascorbic acid or a compound called ascorbate, which is a less acidic form of acorbic acid. Ascorbic acid is NOT vitamin C. It represents the outer ring that serves as a protective shell for the entire vitamin C complex, much like an orange peel that serves as a protective shell for an orange. Real Vitamin C found in whole foods like fruits and vegetables contain the following components:

  • Rutin
  • Bioflavonoids (vitamin P)
  • Factor K
  • Factor J
  • Factor P
  • Tyrosinase
  • Ascorbinogen
  • Ascorbic Acid

When you take only ascorbic acid found in your synthetic vitamin C tablet or powder, it is only mildly beneficial because it looks very similar to the real nutrient. However, your body must gather all of the other components (cofactors) of the full vitamin C complex from your body's tissues in order to make use of it, which eventually will lead to a deficiency of these cofactors. After circulating through your system, the unused ascorbic acid is eliminated through your urine. With food derived nutrients, the whole spectrum is there, even the parts science hasn't discovered.
